Holiday In Dixie 2008

Holiday In Dixie celebrates its 60th year as the first festival in the Ark-La-Tex. Shreveport - Bossier’s annual spring festival and celebration of the Louisiana Purchase is a full schedule of merriment and activities with “something for everyone”. Holiday In Dixie 2008 is comprised of more than 50 activities including the ever popular Regions Bank Treasure Hunt, Neighborhood Block Party Day, the Classic Parade and the Carnival on the Riverfront at Shreveport's Festival Plaza. Listed by the ABA as one of the Top 100 events in North America, the festival is sponsored by community businesses and our sponsors as well as the members of the Holiday In Dixie Ambassadors.

Parade
  Classic Parade

The Holiday In Dixie Classic Parade will be held at 5:30 pm on Saturday, April 19, 2008, in downtown Shreveport beginning at the Municipal Auditorium and heading east on Milam, north on Market, then west on Texas. This parade has been unique to the Shreveport - Bossier area for 60 years in 2008, and continues the tradition of family fun by the inclusion of over 70 parade entries featuring Shriner’s Clowns and cars, Classic Convertibles, Fire Trucks, The National Guard, Bossier City Marshals and Fire Departments, Local School Marching Bands, 16 Floats and more! Once again there will be tons of “throws”, cups and candy showering the crowds that line the streets. The Barksdale Air Force Base fly over during the Holiday In Dixie Classic Parade will once again bring tears of respect and smiles of admiration to the thousands of spectators viewing the mammoth B52 transport and the two A10 Thunderbolts soar over the buildings of downtown Shreveport. These are just a few highlights to grab your attention. Do not miss the Classic Parade on April 19th. Come join us for the time of your life!

The Pacers started with Sonny Burgess on vocals and guitar, Kern K. Kennedy on piano, Johnny Ray Hubbard on slap bass, Russ Smith on drums, Joe Lewis on guitar, and Jack Nance on trumpet. In early 1957 Joe and Russ left the band; Russ going to work with Jerry Lee Lewis and Joe to further his own career. In August of 1957 Jack joined Joe working with Conway Twitty and Bobby Crafford joined the Pacers as drummer.

Military Ball
  Barksdale Holiday In Dixie Military Ball

The 2008 Holiday in Dixie Military Ball was held at the Horseshoe Casino Riverdome March 15 and had record attendance.

More than 500 community members and guests came together as a prelude to this year's Holiday in Dixie, a ten-day festival in Shreveport starting April 18.

Highlights of the ball included performances by the 531st Air Force Band, the Texas Air National Guard "Band of the Gulf Coast" and The Air Force Strolling Strings, a stringed instrument ensemble that played while walking throughout the audience.
 

Air Show
  Barksdale Holiday In Dixie Air Show

In the midst of the celebration, Barksdale participates by celebrating it's storied history and community involvement with the Barksdale Air Show. The show usually consists of several aerial demonstrations by teams such as the Blue Angels, Thunderbirds, or Golden Knights.

For those military or retired members wishing to lodge on base, availability is extremely limited, and reservations can only be made 24 hours in advance. Those individuals on orders have priority.

Holiday In Dixie Carnival - April 18th through 27th Open Saturday, 12:00 pm to 11:00 pm
Sunday, 1:00 pm to 10:00 pm
Monday through Thursday, 4:00 pm to 10:00 pm
and Friday, 4:00 pm to 11:00 pm Admisson is FREE for all ages before 5:00 pm daily.
Starting at 5:00 pm admission is as follows:
Friday, Saturday and Sunday - $5. (Children under 12 FREE if accompanied by an adult.) Monday, Wednesday and Thursday - $2. (Children under 12 FREE if accompanied by an adult.)
Tuesday- $1.(Children under 12 FREE if accompanied by an adult.)

Carnival tickets sell for $1 each.
On Monday and Wednesday, buy a "Ride Pass" at $18 for unlimited rides for the day!
All kids’ rides are 2 tickets each.
All adults’ rides are 3 tickets each.
